"Despite the fact that health benefits are typically the second biggest expense (after wages) for most employers, far too many CEOs and CFOs have failed in their fiduciary responsibility to manage such a large cost item effectively. This passivity and reliance on so-called “experts” to advise their benefits strategy has cost them and their employees dearly. A strong case was made by Jim Clifton, the Chairman of Gallup, that we’re in World War III in his book The Coming Jobs War. Just as the previous wars impacted which countries would lead the world in prosperity, the “war” we are in will dictate which communities get the lion’s share of the jobs (and thus prosperity).
